Alka / Alkanshree Dahar is the Founder & Managing Partner of Law Offices of India, an international law firm head quartered at New Delhi with a pan India presence. She is engaged primarily in the practice of international arbitration and international litigation with special expertise in cross-border transactions, maritime law, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence. She had the privilege of being mentored by none other than Mr. J.B. Dadachan ji, one of India’s top-most legal luminaries from whose chamber’s India’s most eminent lawyers started their sterling careers. She assisted Mr. J. B. Dadachan ji while she was still pursuing her LLB and was greatly influenced by his sparkling intellect and legal acumen. She also had the opportunity to work early in her career with Mr. H.D. Shourie who was the founder and the initiative behind India’s consumer cause movement. She and Mr. H D Shourie worked extensively on reviewing many of India’s archaic laws which in today’s times are outdated and redundant.

Among her notable cases which she fought in London was along-with Michael Brindle QC which she won in London for Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The case was Trafigura Beheer B.V. vs Indian Oil Corporation before Arbitral Tribunal consisting of Dr. Gavan Griffith QC, Chairman from Essex Court Chambers, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, who was also the former Solicitor General of Australia. The other members of the Tribunal were The Rt. Hon. Sir Anthony Evans, the former Judge of English Court of Appeals and Mr. Alistair Schaff QC, Kings Bench Walk, London. The matter was pertaining to a Crude Oil Swap and Sale Contract between IOCL and Trafigura Beheer B.V. Amsterdam wherein the issue was determination of the nomination month for determination of the contractual price of the cargo as to whether contractual price of the oil cargo was USD 101 million or USD 91 million. She has also done matters before the High Court of Justice Queen’s Bench Division Commercial Court in arbitration matters such as Vinergy International (Pvt) Limited and Richmond Mercantile Limited FZC. She is an expert in international arbitrations conducted under ICC Rules and Ad hoc arbitrations and has done many cases such as MT Genmar Ulysses arbitration matter for IOCL regarding Qua Iboe & Girassol Crude Oil. She recently concluded a matter before Justice A. K Patnaik (Former Judge of the Supreme Court) for Steel Authority of India involving a counterclaim of Rs. 70 crores approx. She has also acted for Steel Authority India in many matters such as Oman Charter Co. and SAIL Re M.V. Nirmal Gautam and Emerald Maritime LLC. She also advised Steel Authority of India on ICC Arbitration Rules involving Primetals Technologies India wherein jurisdiction of ICC Paris and ICC India was in question. She has done many arbitrations for Indian Oil Corporation Limited which involved international parties such as Trafigura Beheer B.V., Lankpro (Ceylon) Limited from Sri Lanka, Great Eastern Shipping Corporation and Vitol SA, Switzerland. She advised IOCL in the Sea wolf Tankers Inc case in which English Laws were applicable, along-with with Mr. Steven Morris- Head of International Arbitration and Litigation, Howard Kennedy, London with whom she has worked extensively for man with y years. The aforesaid matter was before Arbitral Tribunal consisting of Mr. Bruce Buchan, London, Mr. Mark Hamsher, Esq, London and Mr. Christopher Moss, Esq. London.
Alka / Alkanshree Dahar also has done numerous ICA arbitrations and has acted on behalf of Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC) in many such cases such as arbitration between Department of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India and M/s land, Air and Sea Transport Ltd. She acted for IOCL in numerous domestic arbitrations in India matters such as Teltech, J.P Continental Construction, Ponty Malik, Newton Engineering, GESCO, Narmada, AAUI Service station, Geo Miller, Dharam chand Gupta, Krishna Petroleum, Hi Tech Pipelines and KTL Mayfair. She advised IOCL regarding recovery of its dues vis-a-vis National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) in view of the sanctions placed upon Iran by the US. She specializes in maritime arbitration and has acted in many arbitration matters involving Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Shipping Corporation of India limited, including a maritime arbitration involving Bominflot Fujairah LLC INC vis-a-vis M. V. BBC Baltic.
Alka / Alkanshree Dahar also handles international cross border transactions and has advised Indian Oil Corporation Limited on their contracts of Supply of Know-how, Preparation of Process Package and other services for their three units of its Paradip Refinery Project with Merichem USA. She advised Indian Oil Corporation on its Aviation Fuel Supply Contract between IOCL and India Airways Pvt. Ltd. for supply of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). She also advised IOCL on the Gas Transmission Agreement between IOCL as the Shipper and GAIL as the Transporter and on a License, Operation and Maintenance Agreement between IOCL and GAIL regarding pipelines provided by GAIL for transportation of LPG from new private sector refineries at Jamnagar and IOCLs import terminal at Kandla in Western India to Northern India. Alka / Alkanshree Dahar has advised State Trading Corporation on the Terms and Conditions for Market Intervention Operation approved by Empowered Committee of the Technology Mission on Oil Seeds (TMO) under the aegis of Department of Agricultural and Coopn., Government of India regarding supplies of Vegetable Oil to National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) by STC. For STC Alka / Alkanshree Dahar has acted on many matters and advised them on their agreement for Purchase and Deferred Purchase pertaining to Natexis Commodity Markets Limited. - Trafigura Beheer B.V. v. Indian Oil Corporation Limited- Arbitration before the International Court of Arbitration (ICC) consisting of Dr. Gavan Griffith QC, Chairman Essex Court Chambers, The Rt. Hon. Sir Anthony Evans and Mr. Alistair Schaff QC. - Worked on offer terms and conditions for Supply Purchase Agreement (SPA) for export of Lube Oil Base Stock (LOBS) to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
- Worked on closure of contract by IOCL with IBM for corporate IT RE-Engineering project, vis-a-vis Request for Proposal (RFP), Technical proposal submitted by Price Waterhouse Associates, Conceptual Technology Plan Final Report, General Conditions of Context (GCC) and in case lodged by IOCL against PWC.
- Advised and gave legal opinion on MRP of imported Mobil Jet Oil including opining on Trade Notices/ Press Notes dated 29.12.2000 issued by Movement of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry , Order dated 31.03.2001 passed by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Guidelines on Packaged Commodities Rules, Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities Amendments Rules 2006), and opinion on whether imported products are required to put MRPs on the individual quarts bottles and its modalities.
